Legends of Perilisc eBook Jesse Teller

I started reading this book last night and could not stop! There are several stories in this book, all taking place in the same universe, just at different times. I did find the writing a little unusual at first, the author's voice is very unique and refreshing, but I think it works spectacularly well with the type of epic fantasys he is writing. It only took a page or two before becoming totally immersed in the tales, as the author is very descriptive and the tales themselves told of very imaginative and gripping events. I found myself unable to put this book down, and I am moving on to his next books! I can't wait until he puts more of his work out!

Legends of Perilisc eBook Jesse Teller Reviews

This was one of the most involved fantasy stories I have come across in a long time. If you love the genre I think you must absolutely read this although I can't promise you will find it an easy, lightly enjoyable read. What I do think, however, is that you will be engrossed until the very end and you will find yourself wanting more, possibly a pre-quel.

The writing is tight and dense with as much attention being given to the prosaic as well as the lyrical angles of the narrative. A Beowulf comparison would not be out of place here and the plot packs a similarly epic/gothic punch. One criticism I have is sometimes the dialogue runs too breathlessly given the situations the speakers find themselves in and that can make them seem like archetypes instead of fleshed out individuals. But this was only evident in the first 1/4 of the book and I can't help but think that the author self-corrected when he hit his stride. Each tale is more fascinating than the one that preceded it and really, each could be easily expanded into its own novella or even full length novel. This kind of talent and imagination is rare in a genre currently cluttered with tropes, cliches and stereotypes. The legends felt Nordic at times and Greco-Roman, African, Gallic, Anglo-Saxon, Persian or South East Asian at others. Simply brilliant.

One other slight thing that threw me off was the fact that some of the characters had names that seemed organic to the time and place while others had modern names that took me out of the story. Again, minor considering the scope of the book but I thought it best to fully explain why I'm rating it as a 5 star (there is no 4.5 rating).

I am so glad I came across this and I can't adequately express my admiration at the author's sheer talent and narrative skill. If you love fantasy, dark fantasy and mythology you will absolutely not be disappointed.
It takes no time to get lost in the steady rhythm of the words. Each story greater than the last with scenes so vivid you would swear you were there. It left me wishing for more from the characters that I quickly grew to love. This was a great collection of stories that was hard to put down. I've even read some of the stories twice since it was released a few months ago-Havoc fascinates me.
This is a great story! It pulls the reader in and provides a glimpse into a different realm that hasn't been recently touched on.
I'm still reading this one. Having great difficulty putting it down. The depth that the author has given not only the characters-but ever aspect of the world in which these stories are set-brings every character, and every breath of air in Perilisc to life! If you are reading this and you do not own a copy of this book I strongly encourage you to purchase a copy right now.
This is a set of short stories set in the world of Perilisc. At first, I found it difficult to follow as I had no idea about this fantasy world (I have never read any of this author's work before) but once I got used to it, I really enjoyed the style of writing and the complex legends and stories that abound in this book. I am very interested in actually reading more of Jesse Teller's books based on the writing itself.
This book was a little hard to read. I feel like there could have been a bit more depth into the characters and who they are. The language is difficult to get through. It read almost as if it is trying to read as an old English literature book from the medieval ages or the Renaissance. I found it very difficult to understand exactly what the author was trying to portray in the scenes. I also feel that there could have been an easier transition between the scenes from going back and forth in time sequences. Overall it has a great concept of a fantasy diety story line. I just wish I could have understood what was going on.
